WHAT IS SUPERVISED VISITATION?

Supervised visitations are usually court-appointed and involve a trained, supervised monitor that will be present during the entire length of a visit between parent and child or children. The purpose of supervised visitation is to ensure that the parent and child are communicating and interacting in a safe, healthy and appropriate manner. The monitor takes impartial and objective notes during the visit to document parent and child activities and interactions. Supervised visitations will usually also involve staggered and neutral exchanges so that there is a smooth transition for the children and to avoid contact or conflict between parents.
